Artistic and General Director of the
«Nebolshoy Drama Theatre (NDT)» (Saint-Petersburg).
Lev Erenburg was born on the 10th of November 1953, in Stalinsk (nowadays Novokuznetsk, Kemerov region). Studied at Tomsky State University, Faculty of Philology (1977); Graduated from Novosibirsk Theatre School, specialization: acting (1980); graduated with the Diploma with Honours from the Leningrad Theatre Institute LGITMIK under Georgy Tovstonogov, with the specialization Director of Drama Theatre (1987). Taught acting skills at the course of Arkadyi Katzman (1987-1989). He was a guest director in many different theaters of Russia and abroad. Cooperated with the Moscow studio «under the direction of Eugine Arie» ( in the future it became «Gesher» theatre); with Finish drama theater (Petrozavodsk), where he had his own course of actors and directors for the theatre (1992). Since 1994 he taught at the St.Petersburg Theatre Academy (at the branch called «Interstudio»), where he had a course of students and on the basis of this course the future «Nebolshoy Drama Theatre» was created.
Worked as an actor at the Novosibirsk Theatre, Chitinsky Drama Theatre. Played in several Russian films (such as «The War» by A. Balabanov). He has medical education as well with the specialization in dentistry. He had a course of actors at the Baltiysky Institute in St.Petersburg; teaches master classes at the Prague Theatre Institute (Check Republic); as a drama theatre director he cooperates with Moscow Art Theatre (МХТ) named after A.P.Chekhov, Magnitogorsky Drama Theatre named after A.S. Pushkin.
Lev Erenburg was the nominee and the winner of the Highest National Theatre Award «Golden Mask»: for the production of the play «At the lowest depth» (at the NDT, 2006, nominee); for the production of the play «The Lightning» (at the Magnitogorsky Drama Theatre named after A.S. Pushkin, 2007, the winner); for the production of the play «Vassa Zheleznova» (at the Moscow Art Theatre (МХТ) named after A.P. Chekhov, 2010, nominee); for the production of the play «Three sisters» (at the NDT, 2012, nominee).
